8 Foot Cross

footcross14.jpg

This is where the Cross sits! I built a stand to support the Cross that matches the pitch of my roof. This allows me to add sand bags to the stand and weight the Cross down as needed to keep it stable in the event of some pretty high winds. You can see a few close up pics below. I made it in 3 sections. The center supports the Cross while the two side sections bolt on via (3) 5/8" X 6" Bolts/Nuts and (4) 1/2" X 4" lag bolts per side. This makes it easier to store and haul up on the roof. As you can see from the pics below, both side pieces are angled where it mounts to the center section to the exact pitch of my roof. It is constructed out of 2X4, 2X6 and and 3/4" plywood. Everything is liquid nailed and then screwed with drywall screws. There is no way this thing is falling apart! I then applied Thompson's water sealer so that the wood would be completely water resistant, then painted the entire thing black to make it as invisible as possible. I did not post details on its construction because everybody's roof and needs are different. This should at least give you a starting point. If you want more detailed information or have any questions, email me here and I will try to help if I can.
