Jesus Is The Reason For The Season!!
|
Mega Trees are very popular in animated Christmas displays. There are a wide variety of ways to make them. I will briefly explain the way I made my tree and in the links above you can see pictures and get some details.
My tree stands 22 feet tall with a 9 foot base diameter. The 2008 tree consisted of 18 channels of red, 18 green and 18 white with 300 lights per channel for a total of 16,200 lights (5,400 lights per color). Each channel operated independently around the tree. When analyzing my 2008 videos, I decided to rework the channels on the tree to free up channels to be used elsewhere in the display where they are more needed. The 2009 tree consists of only 8 channels of red, green and white. Each channel, however, will not be independent, they will consist of 600 lights of each color and operate 300 lights on one side and 300 lights directly opposite. Thus, there will now be 4800 lights per color for a total of 14,400 lights. The effect will stay the same, but my original design was a "channel hog" using 54 channels and now will use only 24.
I do have plans in the upcoming years for my tree to spice it up a little bit. this includes strobe lights, lifting the base to create a "trunk look" and dancing center rings. If you want to build one of your own, I suggest you look around the internet to get several different ideas before committing yourself to building. If you have any technical questions that aren't answered in the links above, feel free to email me here.
